CA North Coast’s 2017 Eureka Crab Celebration Jan 20-21

January is a quiet time to explore the Redwoods, but you’ll find plenty of action in nearby Eureka, CA, as boats unload their bountiful catches of Dungeness Crab. January’s highlight is the Eureka Crab Celebration that “shell-abrates” the crab and the North Coast’s crabbing industry.

Festivities begin Friday night with Round 1 of the Crab Crawl, a self-guided tour of crab-themed food and drink specials in Downtown and Old Town Eureka’s restaurants and bars. 
Hours:  5:00 pm – 9:00 pm  Admission: Pay as you go (not ticketed)

Saturday morning, you can work up an appetite for more crab with the 5K Crab Run (or walk) along Eureka’s waterfront.
Registration: 8:00 am – 10:00 am Race: 10:00 am
Location: Eureka’s Adorni Center 1011 Waterfront Drive, Eureka
Cost: $20 with a crab hat or shirt to wear, or $10 for the race only
 
Saturday’s Crab Festival, also at the Adorni Center, features live music, crab education, crab harvesting demonstrations, CraBOOM!, plus food, beer, wine, and more. Hours: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm Admission: free
 
Saturday evening, it’s a Crab Movie! See Roger Corman’s 1957 classic “Attack of the Crab Monsters”.
Location: Eureka Theater 612 F Street, Eureka, CA  Show times:  6:30 pm and 7:45 pm
Admission: free, donations welcome for the theater’s restoration
 
Festivities conclude with Round 2 of the Crab Crawl in Downtown and Old Town Eureka.
Hours: 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm Admission: Pay as you go
 
So “Get Crackin'” and reserve your weekend getaway for January 20-21, 2017, at The Redwood Riverwalk Hotel in Fortuna! The Redwood is less than 20 miles from Eureka’s Crab Celebration, and a great location for exploring the nearby parks during the quieter winter season.
