Tall Ships Will Sail in Humboldt Bay CA May 5 – 9 2017

Ahoy, Mateys! The sea is calling! Travel back in time more than a century before Eureka was founded and take to the seas (Humboldt Bay that is) to find out what life was like aboard a coastal trading ship like the Hawaiian Chieftain, and the Lady Washington, Washington State’s official tall ship. You might recognize Lady Washington – she’s sailed in movies including the 2003 Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Dockside Tours let you explore the ships and visit with the crew while they are docked.

If you’re ready to sign on and set sail, book passage on a family-oriented Adventure Sail. You’ll help hoist the sails, learn a sea shanty, and even take the helm while under sail (conditions permitting). Evening Sails offer the same kinds of experiences, plus the chance of enjoying a sunset over the Pacific.

If you’re ready for even more adventure, fight the Battle of Humboldt Bay when Battle Sails recreate an 18th century naval skirmish complete with real cannon, gunpowder (but no cannon balls), and close quarters maneuvers. The crew needs your help to raise the sails, and provoke the enemy with you taunts and insults.

After your ship docks and you return to the present, enjoy your drive back to The Redwood Riverwalk Hotel in Fortuna as you view the California coast, rolling hills and estuary with all its wildlife.  You can head straight back or make some stops along the way. After your adventures at sea, you’ll be sure to appreciate The Redwood’s 21st century amenities, including our complimentary full breakfast, indoor pool, and exceptional hospitality. Give us a call or book online today – the sea is calling you!
