2019 Eureka Salt & Fog Fish Fest + Sail on Tall Ships in Humboldt Bay

Celebrate the sea, seafood, and the Redwood Coast’s maritime heritage April 26-28, 2019, during the First Annual Eureka Salt & Fog Fish Fest and the visit by Grays Harbor Historical Seaport’s Tall Ships Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain. Eureka’s picturesque waterfront is only 20 miles from the Redwood Riverwalk Hotel in Fortuna, CA. There’ll be fun for all ages – natural history and battle sails plus tours of the Tall Ships, a pub crawl, 5K race, crab feed, chowder cook-off, live music, Humboldt’s artisans and makers market, and more!

  • The Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain arrive at Bonnie Gool dock and will offer vessel tours between 2:00 – 6:00 pm. Suggested donation: $5.
  • The festival kicks off with Fish Fest’s Fish Out of Water Pub Crawl from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. This self-guided walk around Old Town and downtown Eureka will feature bars and restaurants offering cocktails and small bites, plus special stops to view the tall ships. You can continue the evening’s theme by enjoying a screening of Jaws at the Eureka Theater. Cost: Pay-as-you-go.

  • The historic Tall Ships will offer vessel tours from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm ($5 donation) and two Sails. The Salt and Fog Natural History Sail will feature a natural and cultural history talk about the Humboldt Bay region (11:00 am – 1:00 pm, cost $55-$65 per person). The Battle Sail will recreate an 18th century naval skirmish complete with real cannon, gunpowder (but no cannon balls), and close quarters maneuvers (2:00 pm – 4:00 pm, cost $59-$79 per person).
  • Celebrate the Salt & Fog Fish Fest from 1:00 – 5:00 pm at Madaket Plaza, where you’ll find Humboldt’s artisans and makers displaying their work in a market like setting, live music, a crab feed, chowder cook-off, local brews, food trucks, carriage rides, and speeder train rides. There will be opportunities for Bay Tours on the Madaket, paddle boarding, and kayaking as well.

  • It’s the first Fish Out of Water 5K and Fun Run from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. The route will take runners along part of the Humboldt Bay Trail and Eureka’s Waterfront, including some of the historic architecture in Old Town. Registration: $10 for adult and $5 for children.
  • The Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Tall Ships will offer vessel tours from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm and a Battle Sail from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
